This
special series of 3 Hour Technical Training
Clinics was launched in 2005.
These Clinics have been created exclusively
for Traction store customers.
If you are interested
in attending, talk to your Traction Heavy Duty
Parts store representative for dates and times.
Level ONE courses are for entry level employees
and a refresher for the more experienced mechanics.
In our level ONE
courses the content developed is intended to
inform, stimulate and educate mechanics in alternate
approaches covering; installation, adjustment
and repair. We are NOT teaching repair. We believe
you already know how to repair, but we will
offer some new approaches to troubleshooting
and failure analysis.
Air
Brake Systems – 28 pages Clinic manual
Francais or English
Shop safety. The air system function from compressor
to the brake actuators.
When an engine is started how and where does
compressed air charge the system. We discuss
what happens at 6, 60, 95, 125, 150, 200, 250
PSI. Air dryer cycles, too frequent. What approach
do we take? Do we have the correct dryer? When
air system leaks develop, what are the troubleshooting
options?
Discuss the options of standard versus long
stroke brake chambers.
Mechanical Brake Systems - 36 pages
Clinic manual Francais or English
Starting at the brake actuators, we work our
way from cutting spring brakes push rods, to
discussing the operations of all five brands
of automatic slack adjusters, checking brake
strokes, brake adjustment, talking basics of
friction, s-cams, brake wear, wheel end adjustments
and offer a few troubleshooting tips.
Antilock
Brake Systems – 28 pages Clinic manual
Francais or English
Starts with identification of components from
2S/1M through 6S/6M systems. We discuss Level
1, 2, and 3 troubleshooting. Level 1 is when
mechanics use blink codes or DVOM’s to
identify and correct ABS fault codes. Level
2 is when mechanic uses a hand held tester to
identify and correct ABS fault codes. Axle by
axle and side by side systems are identified.
Level 3 is NOT covered in this presentation,
since these mechanics are using computers and
software to troubleshoot.
Release of the suspension
programs has been delayed to Mid 2007
Air
Suspensions 36 Pages
There are many styles of air suspensions. Our
focus in this program is to help with understanding,
installation, inspection and repair of air suspensions.
We will discuss parts identification, troubleshooting
of load leveling valves, air springs, trailer
alignment, understanding underslung and overslung
suspensions. A great starter suspensions program.
Steel
Spring Suspensions –36 Pages
Steel spring suspensions look simple to those
of us on the outside of that industry. Our focus
in this clinic is to assist with parts identification,
how to accurately measure steel springs, torque
rods, etc. Measuring ride height. Discuss the
need for trailer alignment. Knowing where to
look for potential failures. Troubleshooting
beyond the general repair.
